Arts & Culture
The breathtaking beauty of the Kennebunks has drawn artists from near and far for decades. They find incredible inspiration in the ever-changing mood of the sea, the tranquil beauty of a tidal inlet or the special kind of sunset only the coast of Maine can provide. Painters, photographers and sculptors, as well as those who create beautiful handcrafted items have formed a significant artists' colony here in the Kennebunks. You're sure to find works of art that rival anything found elsewhere.
Unlike other seaside villages that are an artist's home for the summer, the Kennebunks' artistic community thrives here year round and is able to capture the beauty of the ever-changing landscape of the four seasons. Spend time during your trip experiencing the work of these incredibly talented individuals. The work of these artisans is on display year round in the galleries found in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise and Arundel.
The Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce hosts the Village Art Walk, a free self-guided walking tour of art galleries, studios and organizations of Kennebunk's Lower Village and Kennebunkport's Dock Square and Ocean Avenue on the second Friday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission to all galleries is free and open to the public.
Downtown Kennebunk hosts the "Third Friday Art Walk," a self-guided tour of local art galleries, studios and museums, on the third Friday of each month in the summer.
A night of entertainment is easily found at the Arundel Barn Playhouse and the Ogunquit Playhouse, where you can enjoy fun, dramatic or vocally inspiring shows you can imagine. The Maine coast has been a summer haven for Hollywood actors to come and "hit the boards" since the 1940, and they still come today to stretch their acting muscles and enjoy the beauty and relaxation of our coast.
